The Course
Punta Gorda Golf Club purchased the course in 2004 and shortly thereafter started a 2.2 million
dollar renovation which was completed in 2005.  The clubhouse was completely rebuilt, the front
nine became the back, new tiff eagle greens were added and several of the holes were
redesigned.  New equipment was purchased and almost every aspect of the operation was
upgraded.
Course History
Port Charlotte Golf Club was built by General Development and first opened in October of 1959.  The first head
pro was Don Williams who is still actively teaching golf in the Port Charlotte area and was kind enough to
provide much of the course history information.  PCGC was actually not the first course built in Port Charlotte.
Punta Gorda was built in the 20's and had various owners over the years.  1969 was probably the low point
for the Punta Gorda course after the club house burned down.   Eventually, Punta Gorda was rebuilt and in
2004, an offer was made to purchase the property.  Punta Gorda Golf Club decided to accept the offer and
purchased Port Charlotte GC for its replacement.

The original Port Charlotte course was only 9 holes and is what we consider to be the back 9.  The back nine
(our front) was completed in 1962 for the incredibly low sum of $90,000.  The first nine was designed by
Mark Mahannah and the second by Dave Wallace.
